SatoriAnalytics: Business Capacity Management
The goal of business capacity management is to optimize the capability of the IT infrastructure and supporting organization in order to deliver a cost-effective and sustained level of computing capacity and availability that satisfies business requirements. This is an iterative and ongoing process that involves maintaining and optimizing a capacity plan, taking into account changes in demand as well as the “capacity efficiency” of the IT infrastructure.
SatoriAnalytics Business Capacity Management module is an out-of-the-box solution with capabilities to help optimize capacity and significantly improve the computing efficiency of the IT environment. It provides support throughout the iterative business capacity management process where IT and business executives evaluate current business, financial, economic, and technology factors:
At the core of the SatoriAnalytics platform is the Capacity Metering Engine, which performs two major functions:
- Computing Capacity Inventory Tracking: Real-time tracking of IT infrastructure capacity on three levels: (1) physical servers, (2) virtual pools/instances and (3) applications. In order to make meaningful comparisons across server environments and among individual servers, capacity measurements are normalized using SatoriTech’s Computing Resource Unit (“CRU”) metric*, which is derived through an algorithmic assimilation of micro-benchmarked measurements of computing inventory components
- Computing Capacity Usage Metering: Continuous monitoring of capacity usage and utilization by servers, pools/instances and applications. Data aggregation and consolidated reporting enables monitoring in multiple dimensions, such as by server pools, user groups and applications
The Business Capacity Management module provides capabilities to help align IT infrastructure capacity and performance with business requirements at the lowest possible cost:
- Demand/Usage Forecasting: Simulation of capacity requirements based on usage history and trending related to physical servers, virtual pools/instances, applications and user groups
- Consolidation/Virtualization Optimization: Identification and prioritization of consolidation opportunities based on relative cost efficiency of various sever platforms, pools, locations, etc.
- Application Sizing: Determination of capacity needs for new/expanded/reduced applications to minimize uncertainty and risk associated with production deployments
- Capacity Efficiency Management: Capacity simulation and planning based on insights into available capacity, historical utilization and demand forecasts, and associated costs. Dashboards with KPIs and alerts
